Brisbane 100: One City Together (Free Public Event)

1st October 2025

This free, all-ages event invites residents and visitors to explore a century of Greater Brisbane, commemorating the monumental 1925 amalgamation that shaped our city.

From 10am to 4pm, everyone is invited to delve into the rich heritage and diverse community of Brisbane. This special day is inspired by the creation of Greater Brisbane, 100 years ago, when the Brisbane City Council replaced 20 local authorities, including the cities of Brisbane and South Brisbane, various towns like Ithaca and Wynnum, and shires such as Balmoral and Sherwood, along with parts of Tingalpa and Yeerongpilly.

In the Sherwood Room: Explore Historic Displays; “Step Back to 1925”; Engage with Community History & Brisbane’s vibrant multiculturalism; “Journey From the Past to the Future” – discovering stories of First Nations peoples and join in a yarning circle with the Aunties; Place your wishes for Brisbane on the “wishing serpent”.

In the Sandgate room: join Bazil Grumble, Just Wood Fun, Urban Utilities and Museum of Brisbane in fun activities for children of all ages: make a badge and proudly wear it to mark this significant day.

Book with Brisbane Greeters for one-hour walking tours of the CBD, departing from King George Square, with special “I Spy” tours designed for family groups with children aged 5-13, encouraging discovery of historical clues in the urban landscape

OR take a tour of interesting parts of City Hall, including the clock tower by booking with The Museum of Brisbane.

“Brisbane 100: One City Together” promises a fun and informative day out for families, history enthusiasts, and anyone curious about our city’s past and present.
