Collaboration with local Brisbane artist for new merchandise design

Erected on behalf of the citizens of the Town of Windsor to commemorate local residents who had served in the First World War, the Windsor War Memorial celebrates the centenary of its unveiling on ANZAC Day 2025.

2025 also marks 100 years of Greater Brisbane. The City of Brisbane replaced twenty local authorities, including the Town of Windsor. When it came into effect on 1 October 1925, it was under the leadership of Mayor William Jolly who had been Mayor of the Town of Windsor.

Windsor and Districts Historical Society is honoured to operate out of the Old Windsor Town Council Chambers and to facilitate the ANZAC Day Service at the Windsor War Memorial, each year.

To acknowledge and celebrate the heritage of these Windsor landmarks, we sought ways to make a small part of local history available to the community via our online shop while at the same time adding funds to support the Society’s operations.

Brisbane Artist – Debra Hood

After collaborating with Debra Hood on this project, the Society is excited to release 4 new items on our online shop.

A tea towel featuring both the Chambers and the War Memorial, a key tag with the Chambers and two cards, blank inside waiting for your own message/memories/greetings.

Debra, an award-winning Brisbane based artist, is famous for her bright, colourful and loving cityscapes that celebrate the unique Queenslander architecture. Over time, the foliage of her paintings became more dotted, mirroring the Brisbane springtime when the blossoms of Jacaranda, Poinciana, Pink Trumpet and Golden Penda trees fall en masse, like confetti, to create a multicoloured carpet that is today featured in her paintings. She has included some of her signature features in her designs for our new merchandise, whilst still maintaining the integrity of the historical sites depicted.
